Even going to some of the same Houston restaurants I’ve always loved (Tacos a Go Go is my go-to for great/semi unhealthy food) but trying things that are different instead of your old favorite is a lot of fun and kind of a new adventure.

So, at Rice we have separate lines for vegetarian food, and that makes my life awesome. I can easily go to where all the food I can eat is and usually there’s NO LINE! What??? That’s crazy! Yes, even on cinnamon roll night there’s still not a line at the vegetarian station. I really hate waiting in lines so this is pretty perfect for me.

Being conscious about food choice

One thing that I didn’t expect to enjoy but I’ve really liked about becoming vegetarian is just how much more conscious I am at meal times. I actually spend some time thinking about what I want to eat and how to go about getting enough food and nutrients, instead of just staying on auto pilot the whole time I’m in the servery. Don’t get me wrong, I still don’t eat like crazy healthy or anything, but I do enjoy being more alert.

Feeling good about what I’m eating

Had to put this one in here, mostly because it’s true. I do feel good about not eating meat. I feel good that I’m contributing less to animal suffering and hurting the environment and a bunch of other unethical stuff that comes with eating meat. So, there’s that too, and I know this isn’t true for everyone, and that’s fine, but for me not eating meat feels really good. Almost as good as Chef Roger’s cauliflower…
